Introduction To Jammu
Jammu is in the far northern tip of India and is known as the “City of Temples”. This is because of the large number of temples and shrines all throughout the area. Many of them are of unique and ancient construction. There also are many ancient archeological sites in Jammu with great cultural and religious significance. Jammu is considered a Hindu holy city and is a pilgrimage destination for many of the faith that visit ancient temples and religious sites all around the city. The ancient architecture and the area’s beautiful landscape of hills, mountains, rivers and river basins also make it a popular tourist destination. Mansar Lake is another attraction and is surrounded by tree-covered hills. Other sites of significance include ancient castles, beautiful gardens, and the local wildlife sanctuary.
Along with scenic beauty and ancient architecture, Jammu is the economic center of the state. There are many markets around the city and a local bazaar as well as a modern day shopping mall, restaurants and other modern conveniences. Jammu has quite a few cultural festivals and religious celebrations all throughout the year that often include traditional music and dance.
