Introduction To Delhi

Delhi is the second largest metropolitan area within India and the eighth largest in the world. It is located in northern India to the west of the River Yamuna. Agricultural plains run to the west, with hilly areas to the south. Its official name is the National Capitol Territory of Delhi. The area has been populated since at least 6th century BC and possibly even before that time. It is known for its many great monuments and architectural sites as well as its archaeological, ancient and medieval sites. It became a major part of the area’s trade route and has developed into an important political, commercial and cultural center within the country. New Delhi is the capitol of the country and is within the region of Delhi, India. New Delhi was built in the 19th century during the time of Indian British rule. India then became an independent nation in 1947.

Delhi attracts people from all over the country because of its influence and urban opportunity. This makes it quite a diverse area rich in culture and tradition, which attracts tourists from around the globe. There are many different religious and cultural events that take place here throughout each year and many include ceremonies with musicians and dancers. Delhi has old style markets and bazaars where you can find a large variety of items such as arts and crafts, jewelry, spices, fresh food and clothing. It is also one of the fastest growing retail centers in the world with plenty of modern day shopping as well.
