Introduction To Luxor
Luxor in Egypt has been popular with tourists ever since the Greco-Roman and it has held it’s appeal for travelers ever since. There are many sites to explore including the Luxor Temple, which is in the center of the city and that was built by New Kingdom Pharaoh Amenophis III. You can also pay a visit to the Luxor museum – a home to many relics that have been found at the Theben temples and Necropolis.
If you are that way inclined you can visit The Mummification Museum where you can learn more about the process of mummification – in ancient Egypt and the city of Thebes birds and reptiles were mummified along with humans.
Karnak should be mandatory on any itinerary – it is a short distance away from Luxor and this is where you will find the Temples of Karnak which were built over 1500 years ago. You can also take a guided tours across the Nile to the Necropolis (the tours enter three tombs at the archaeological site).
Valley of The Kings (where Tutankhamun’s tomb was found) and Valley of the Queens, (where Queen Nefertari was buried) both make for an interesting and educational visit. The city of Luxor has some wonderful street markets and a great number of restaurants and outdoor eateries that serve tasty and delicious local cuisine.
